Handling Back-To-School Stress and Managing Diabetes

Hey everybody! We’re at that time of year
where everyone’s back to work in earnest, the kids are back in school, summer is over which makes a lot of us sad but that all that change can also bring
stress. This time of year, I try to double down on my diabetes management
and use the routine that I’m forced into at work and with the kids in school to
my advantage in managing my diabetes First, I try to pick the days that I’m
going to work out to get back on a regular workout routine before the week
starts. I try to get into the gym four days a week or run outside and I pick
when those days are going to be based on the week ahead of me and then I just
stay on that on that schedule. It also allows me to eat at the same time pretty
much every day – so breakfast, lunch and dinner – it allows me to have my insulin
work more effectively and my body to get adjusted to expecting those three meals
at those times. I also really like to pack my lunch because not only does it
make me more efficient at work but also helps me control carbs and not get off
the wagon and go down the street to get a lunch that may not be as healthy as
either something that either I or Alana would pack. And lastly because I have to
get up early in the morning to either workout and/or get to work, it cuts down
on the amount of drinking I do at night which is good for a lot of reasons.
So this schedule, this routine, that we’re being forced into here in the fall, we
suggest that we use it to your advantage in managing your diabetes. We hope these
tips have been helpful and we look forward to seeing you at TheDiabetesSupportGroup.org!
