Sitting all day in a computer may cause headache and migraines

many many headache and migraine
sufferers get headaches migraines at the end full working day after they’ve been
sitting at their computer for a long period of time so today we’re gonna
discuss how you can improve your economic setup at work so that you can
help prevent getting headaches and migraines at the end of the day hi I’m
dr. Beth Osteopath here at Melbourne
headache solutions and today I have got a heady helper who’s going to help me
show you how you can have the best set up at work so here is my handy helper
this is Bridget so as you can see Bridget is sitting in awful posture
she’s got a head poking forwards she has a bum away from the back hip edge of the
chair and she has her back rounded and shoulders called forwards she is not
sitting in great posture at all so in order to improve this Bridget, she gonna
slide all the way to the back edge of the chair so her back is supported
then she’s go nna sit with a nice straight back and she’s gonna have a
nice elongated neck this is an example of good posture now we do not need to
puff our chests out when we’re having good posture but we do know to have an
elongated spine so this is a perfect example okay now one thing that can
easily happen is that you can drop through the chest and again round
through the shoulders even when your bum is at the back of the chair so Bridget
can you show us that now this is what most people do they get sucked into the
screen they get drawn into the computer screens and rather hypnotic if you feel
that this is happening once again you need to sit up nice and tall make sure
that your mid-back is against the back of your chair and this will be a
reminder that you are sitting in nice posture now one thing that we also need
to do is making sure that everything is within easy reaching distance as you can
see Bridget stapler is in within easy reaching distance that’s directly in
front of her okay but as you can also see her little F Force machine is within
easy reaching distance that’s directly in front of her and we have our nice
pens here they’re within an easy reaching distance however if our pens
were over the other side of the desk over there these are things that she
uses on a regular basis so if you needed to reach for them all
the time then she’s placing a lot of strain in through her back in through
her neck and she’s gonna cause a repetitive strain injury and she’s gonna
be placing a lot of strain and tension in throughout her body
so making sure that everything that you need to use on a regular basis is within
easy reaching distance so that you have the best possible posture now if you
also notice our monitors and the phone are elevated by paper this is so that
they are the best ergonomic height and set up so the
Bridget can see well and so that she was not placing strain through her neck as
she is working okay so making sure that the screen is at an appropriate height
so the union head is not dropping down and you’re not placing strain through
the back of the neck the other thing if you do sit at a desk similar to ours
where it’s got quite a higher top is when you’ve got things like forms or
you’re reaching for people is that you need to stand up to interact with them
okay so you need to stand up interact hand it to them once again so that
you’re not interfering with your lower back your upper back your shoulders or
your neck and then this will help take the pressure off your neck and once
again help to decrease the frequency of your headaches and migraines at work so
Bridget has been fantastic she’s maintaining beautiful posture and she’s
giving us a smile okay so this is what you need to be following every day if
you’re a computer work a desk worker anything of the sort
making sure that everything is nice and close to you with an easy reaching
distance your computer is set up an ergonomic height for you and also making
sure that you were sitting in beautiful straight posture the other things that
you need to do is making sure you get up at a regular bath like at regular times
and intervals also doing regular neck exercises so Bridget can you look from
side to side for me beautiful and then dropping your ear
from side to side for me gorgeous and then take your head now around a nice
big slow circle for me excellent we’ve got two directions so go
around the other way so because when we sit over the computer when we’re sitting
at a desk we’re not getting a lot of movement as Bridget is showing us she’s
staring directly at the screen there’s not a lot of movement happening in
through the body we need to make sure that we do induce some unnatural
movement which is exactly the movements that Bridget has shown us so that we can
help to prevent our headaches and migraines to try all of these things see
how you go and if you found this video helpful like share comment tag and
hopefully this will help to prevent your headaches and migraines at the end of a
long working day thanks guys and I’ll catch you next time and Thank You
Bridget
